Chad Mickey - Arbor View and Centennial High School

The next teacher feature welcomes Chad Mickey from the great state of Kansas.

Mr. Mickey’s main instruments are cello and bass. He started on the cello in 5th grade. When asked about his instrument choice, he said, “My mother gave me a choice of playing any other instrument to get out of piano lessons as long as it was in her string orchestra. I picked up bass shortly after to play with all my friends in the jazz band after school. “

He grew in Dodge City then moved to Wichita, Kansas for college and the first 4 years of his teaching career.

Mr. Mickey’s mother was his orchestra teacher from 5th to 12th grade. He studied at Dodge City Community College for a couple years in Automotive Technology and played in the jazz band for scholarships. He was involved in playing in quartets, folk rock bands, jazz combos, and blue grass bands throughout the midwest in between years and summers of college. He finished up at Wichita State University after finally deciding to go into music as a career. He taught four years in Wichita for USD 259.

Hobbies: Motorcycles, Coaching and teaching Swimming, Carpentry. He also build street rods. He has a 57 Chevy that he rebuilt from the ground up, and is currently working on a ‘56 Chevy. When he is not working on cars, he does a little bit of metalsmithing with artistic design.
